Modern diagnostic imaging improves radiologist workflow, diagnostic performance and image quality. Those investments are working as intended in a lot of organizations. They also leave the enterprise imaging problem untouched.

Across most health systems, imaging still sits in disconnected systems, split by department, facility or specialty. Clinicians lose time hunting for prior studies from other specialties and other sites. Care teams leave the EHR to chase images. Every newly acquired hospital adds one more archive that works locally and deepens the split across the enterprise.

That gap is structural. It is not evidence that any individual system is failing, it is the natural outcome of how imaging environments have grown, and it makes every future change harder than it needs to be: adopting AI, moving to cloud, integrating an acquisition.

The issue is not whether individual systems work; it is whether they work together.
