A workstation problem holding back remote reading

DocPanel connects hospitals and radiology departments to a network of fellowship-trained radiologists for remote coverage. In 2022 it set out to give its remote mammographers a better telemammography reading experience.

But mammography, CAD and 3D tomography studies have historically forced hospitals to invest in costly on-site mammography workstations to manage the large data sets and high-resolution images these studies demand. That hardware dependency has long been an obstacle to remote reading, tethering specialists to a physical location and a single workstation.

At the same time, a nationwide shortage of breast radiologists is being made worse by rising breast imaging volumes, which delays interpretations and pushes radiologists to read more.
