Mammo Prefetch When Using a Non-PACS Mammo Workstation
A large metropolitan health system’s mammo interpretation workflow involves the sending of all relevant prior studies to all mammo reading stations to ensure relevant prior studies are available to the radiologist. This workflow requires high network use and substantial temporary local storage. The current approach results in the PACS admin having to perform ad hoc support on many mammo workstations to maintain a stable environment.
The Mach7 Technologies Solution
The customer configured Keystone Engine to perform relevant prior prefetching only after the exam was in progress. This was achieved using rules the customer defined from their Keystone Management Console.
Benefits
- Prefetching is performed only when exams are in progress.
- Relevant priors are sent only to the mammo workstation where the read will be done.
- Eliminated PACS admin ad hoc mammo support due to store issues.
- Dramatically reduced network utilization for this function.
- Eliminated unnecessary study transfers due to cancellations.
- Audit trail allows PACS admin to track prefetch outcomes.
